Cala Rossini is the winner of the H2O contest organized by Orange Island and the Museum of SL Photography. Her winning piece, “Give Praise to the Goddess of Stormy Seas” is probably her most accomplished work. Cala is a master of post-production, but she surely has talent to tell stories. As you will discover on her Koinup and Flickr streams, most of Cala’s works have a meaning. Read the details after the jump.
I’m very glad to propose you to meet one of the most popular artist on Koinup. Come discover her world Thursday 10th of September at 11.00am SLT at the Orange Island Photo Gallery. Cala will tell us about her experience in Second Life and the story behind her artworks.
In order to help you getting into her world, I asked her a few questions:
So who is Cala Rossini?
Who am I? I have no idea really. Artistically – a bit of a butterfly who is maybe just starting to emerge from her cryssallis maybe.
What did bring you to SL Photography?
I first became interested in SL photography while browsing the main Second Life website one day when the SL grid was down. There was a link to Flickr and Koinup and as I started browsing I was blown away by people such as HIO and Sebcaen Ulysses. I couldn’t believe what art could be made from this place. The more I browsed the more I was amazed. Ahmad (Don) Hosho, Eves Rodenberger, Lano Ling, Gianmario Masala, Sylvester Mills, Jordan Giant all left me spellbound. One evening Ji Dallagio was taking photos of me and I started asking questions and taking snaps too. This is where it all started for me.
What are your best moments in SL?
On a personal level my best moment in SL was meeting my partner, Ulrik. He has been my strength and inspiration ever since. From a professional point of view my two proudest moments were being asked to show at the Lost World gallery (I love the sim and gallery with a passion, and the creators Kiya McMahon & Lolmac Shan are wonderful people) and winning the H2O contest.
What is your recent activity?
Real life has taken me away during the summer. My mother has been ill and ultimately lost her battle with life very recently. My aim now is to concentrate on fantasy work and try to draw from the emotions I am going through right now as a catharsis if nothing else. Also I have comissioned a gallery to be built by Charlotte Bartlett of Scarlet Creative which will show not only show my own work but work of other artists. I also continue to work for Modavia Fashion Directory.
Where can we find you on the web? in Second Life?
You can find me on Flickr and Koinup. In SL you can find my temporary gallery and studio and a subscribe-o-matic at Senses Island but its a bit of a mess at the moment. I hope the gallery will be completed by the end of the year.
What major initiative could be done to help SL Photography?
Well, for a start it would be nice if the Snapshot facility could actually work consistently between releases!! Also it would be nice for it to be featured on the SL web home page. I think it is as important an activity now as “Shopping” and “Finding Love” and deserves its place, maybe encouraging more people to find their creative side.
